What is a weighted blanket?

Popular weighted blankets have helped many with problems in falling asleep, and other sleep problems of various degrees. A weighted blanket is clearly heavier than an ordinary duvet and helps to calm restless sleepers. The blanket applies evenly soothing and relaxing weight to the body, activating the pleasure center of the brain.

A weighted blanket may help you fall asleep sooner, soothe anxiety and improve sleep quality. How to choose the right weighted blanket: The recommended weight of a weighted blanket should be approximately 10% of the sleeper’s body weight. So, if your weight is approximately 50 kg, choose a 5 kg weighted blanket. Respectively, if your weight is approximately 70 kg, choose a 7 kg weighted blanket and approximately 90 kg, a 9 kg weighted blanket. However, each sleeper’s individual needs and preferences should be taken into account.

Finlayson’s Tuhti weighted blanket is filled with GRS certified, recycled polyester and glass beads, kept firmly in place by stitching. The outer material of the blanket is 100% cotton. Weighted blankets are not recommended for persons suffering from respiratory or cardiovascular illnesses, fractures or osteoporosis. Weighted blankets are not suitable for children under 5 years of age. It is always important to ensure that the user can lift the weighted blanket easily by themselves.

We recommend regular airing and hand washing for the weighted blanket in the first instance. The weighted blanket can be machine washed on a gentle cycle in 60 degrees and gently spin dried. Remember to check the weight limit of your washing machine and that the blanket is intact before washing. The product has been granted the STANDARD 100 by OEKO-TEX® certificate, which guarantees that the product does not contain harmful chemicals and is safe to use.
