Finlayson’s new collection Vegi takes home textiles into a new era. In addition to organic cotton, the Vegi products include naturally eco-friendly hemp. Best of all, all Vegi textiles are plant dyed. 

The Vegi towels feature a heavy structured large waffle weave pattern that gives the towels a light, airy and plush feel. The towels are highly absorbent and feel pleasant against the skin. Due to the structural features of the waffle weave, it is important to follow the care instructions precisely to keep the towel in shape. This means that after washing, the towels must be carefully shaped while damp. 

The Vegi towels are made from material containing 70% organic cotton and 30% hemp. The cultivation of organic cotton makes efficient use of rain water, and employs organic fertilisers and pesticides. Hemp is similar to linen, and has been used for thousands of years in making textiles and clothing. Hemp is more high-yielding than flax, and hemp cultivation improves the quality of the soil.

For now, plant dyeing is a fairly experimental method for home textiles due to the high demands for colour permanence in towels that are washed frequently. The colour of plant-dyed products fades or even changes somewhat the more the fabric is washed. This characteristic of plant-dyed fabrics is good to remember.
